My Autocross Experience
Autocross Trophies/Awards How to Get Started Autocrossing A Typical Day at the AutoX My Track ExperienceI was first introducted to the Autocross/Solo2 sport by a co-worker (who has since become one of my best friends) back in the summer of 2001. At the time, he just bought a Honda s2000 and was interested in learning how to really drive it. So he invited me to a local Autocross school being hosted by the local SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) chapter. I had never heard of this sport, but since I just bought my Bimmer, I thought I'd give it a try and see what she could do. It was a 2-day event and I remember that the first time I went out on the test course, I missed every gate, LOL! Regardless, my friend and I were hooked. After that, we started attending a few SCCA practices, until finally we attended a BMW event. At BMW events, they have practice runs in the morning and then competition in the afternoon. Well, both my friend Pierre and I did well. Before you know it, we're competing at SCCA, BMW and PCA (Porsche Club) events and racking up the trophies = D. What was really a surprise, was just how good a driver my friend turned out to be! Haha - in the hundreds of times we've run against each other, I think I beat him twice (doh!). He's an A-Level driver, while I may a B+ at best. No matter, it was alot of fun. Attending these events, it wasn't all driving. I began taking my camera along to take pics. At first, I only took a handful, but then it grew to 1000s per event. Eventually, I got really good at it, and I continue to take event pics to this day. You can check em out in my Photo Gallery. More than anything though, the best thing at the events is meeting the good people who volunteer to run them and those who participate. Well, recently my friend and I have both slowed down a bit, due to some changing situations. I parted out my car recently and he has since sold his s2000 and has been running different cars since. I still attend BMW events, but just to socialize and take pics. I'm sure I'll compete again. If you see me at an event, make sure to say Hey!
